Over the last 3 weeks Carole has been coming to my studio in Melton for private art tuition. She usually comes for 3 hours which gives us plenty of time to discuss the direction in which she would like the artwork to go in and also time to actually do the painting. Carole arrived with 2 unfinished artworks which she wanted to get finished but wasn't sure how to.

In the first painting of her son on the beach, it was a case of adjusting the horizon line, adding depth to the clouds with a sponge and finishing off the detail of the back of the head and clothing.

With the second artwork of Snape Maltings that Carole brought, there was a bit more work to be done. First of all we worked on the perspective of the buildings. We didn't want to correct eveything so that it was an exact copy of the photo, this would have removed Carole's creative style but we did need to ground the buildings. We also brightened and lightened the sky with the lovely purple colour. The boat did need to be enlarged as it was the focus subject of the painting and then the shadow had to be adjusted below it. I love the colours that she used for the reflections. Finally we had to decide where exactly all the ropes were going from the mast and boom on the boat and how they would be reflected.
